Bharti AXA Stock in Focus Amid ₹8,000 Cr Acquisition Talks with UK Based Prudential

Synopsis: The Bharti Group is reportedly in advanced discussions to divest its majority stake in Bharti AXA Life Insurance to Prudential Plc for an estimated Rs. 7,000–8,000 crore. While the deal underscores a strategic pivot toward core telecom and digital sectors, Bharti Airtel’s stock faced pressure today, tracking a broader market decline despite robust subscriber growth figures released by TRAI.
The Bharti Group is navigating a significant corporate restructuring as it explores the sale of an 85% stake in its life insurance arm, Bharti AXA Life Insurance, to the UK-based Prudential Plc.
The deal is reportedly valued between Rs. 7,000 crore and Rs. 8,000 crore, reflecting a premium valuation compared to previous stake sales. This move aligns with Chairman Sunil Mittal’s broader strategy to exit non-core, capital-intensive businesses and concentrate resources on 5G infrastructure, digital banking, and global telecommunications.
For Prudential, this acquisition represents a bold expansion in the Indian market. Following the liberalization of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) rules in insurance, the deal would allow Prudential to take operational control of Bharti AXA Life, complementing its existing 21.93% stake in ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and its recently launched health insurance joint venture.
Despite the potential “value unlock” from its insurance divestment, Bharti Airtel Limited (BHARTIARTL) faced notable intraday pressure during the mid-morning session on April 24, 2026. After opening at Rs. 1,845.00, the stock slipped 1.34% to trade near Rs. 1,816.60, closely tracking a broader 1.01% decline in the NIFTY 50 index.
Analysts suggest this downward movement which saw the price hit an intraday low of Rs. 1,812.60 by late morning is fueled by macroeconomic headwinds like global market volatility and rising oil prices rather than company-specific issues. With a high delivery percentage of 78.57% and a massive market capitalization of Rs. 11.09 lakh crore, the telecom giant remains a focal point for large-cap stability, even as it navigates these broader market corrections heading into the afternoon.

The insurance division provides life and general insurance products by combining Bharti’s domestic reach with Prudential’s global expertise.
